Why do you love to skate? Skating means so much to me…it isn’t just a sport or passion. It is my life, my way of living, my teacher through I learned how to face life challenges. Skating taught me how to become mentally and physically stronger.
What keeps you pushing forward in skating? The hunger to learn more, to become every day a better skater and a better person…a better version of myself. It is a never-ending process because there is always something new to learn so I keep pushing forward for it. And at the same time, I know my story and experience inspire other skaters to follow the skating way and keep pushing as I do.
What was your greatest success? I think my greatest achievement by now is 3x world title in pair slalom with Valerio Degli Agostini and my 3x Vice world champion in single. But at the same time, a huge success is every time I can inspire other skaters around the world.
What is your favorite place to skate? My skating training place because is the place where I spend most of my time, the place where I feel peace and fire at the same time. The place where I create my magic. It is my laboratory.
What is your favorite trick? My signature trick, the Corvo seven
What advice would you like to give? Skating may be hard and challenging. You will have hard times while you'll feel into a dark tunnel and you cannot find the light at the end of it and you will fail a lot before achieving the tricks successfully, but in the end, all the effort will be worth it. So enjoy the process to success, every good or bad step of it!
Any hobbies outside of skating? Yes I have many: travel and photo/video making, visual storytelling, drawing comics style, basketball and sport in general, especially crazy ones hahaha
What is your favorite moment in skating? I would say the 3 best moments. (1) 2013 the first time I’ve been in China for Shanghai Slalom Open. It’s been the moment that changed my whole skating career because being surrounded by the slalom masters of China (Zhang Hao, Ye Haoqin, Feng Hui, Su Feiqian) lit up the fire inside me to become a real PRO. (2) 2014 the first time I made it to the battle final of the world championship when, fighting against a very good skater Alexander Timchenko, I bet him at the best trick and moved to the final. (3) 2016 when, with Valerio, we got for the first time the World Champion Title!
There is one more episode which I’ve never talked about before…it was 2014, I was at the training with my coach when I told him “I want to win the world title, now I feel I can”. That moment gave me so much power. That dream could become reality and it became some years later.
Tell us about your personal philosophy, phrase, ethic, and/or value as a skater! Yes, you can write a book…? “I do magic” is my mantra. Any time I face an obstacle in life, it is a challenge to myself, to show my abilities, but at the same time to learn new ones. We all can do magic in our life, we just need to want it and to put all our passion and love into the things we are doing. Enjoy every single moment and things you do in life, knowing that each of these can teach you something. Life is a learning process through which we can do our best magic.
